🪅 How To Make A Rope Bag
Lift the base and hold it at an angle against the left side of the sewing machine. Continue to sew more of the loose rope to the coil. You will notice that the rope will begin to curve and the sides of the rope tote will begin to form. Continue to sew the sides of the tote until it reaches about 17 cm (6. in) in height.
Repeat to create a second 34” handle. Don’t remove the tape because your rope will immediately begin to unravel. 2. From the inside of the bag out, thread rope through handle holes and place a washer on each end of the rope. 3. Tie a tight knot in the rope at the very end of each handle. Repeat for the second side.
Using a basic stitch, sew the two pieces together. First across the bottom end, then the two longer sides. Make sure to stop sewing 1 1/2-inch from the top. Now for the drawstring. Working one side at a time, fold the open end of the linen in half and sew once again using a basic stitch.
Drafting The Bag Pattern. Grab your paper and pattern master / ruler / straight edge and draw a rectangle the exact dimensions above. You should have a rectangle that looks like this. Take your ruler and mark a dotted line 3.5 cm in from one of the shorter edges. This will be the ‘fold line’ for the string channel.
Like other rope bags, the Shapiro Rope Bag has an internal tarp that folds out for the rope to sit on. But unlike many rope bags, the tarp is removable: it zips off, allowing you to burrito-up your rope and move it from belay stance to belay stance without restacking the rope (read: somehow getting it hopelessly tangled) into the bag each time.
2. & 3. Wrap the paper around the box, tape at the end, and press along the 4 sides so the edges are more defines. 4. & 5. Fold and wrap the bottom portion like how you would wrap a gift box, secure bottom of the bag with clear tape. 6. Slide the “gift bag” out of the box frame.
